Finding theater at the city’s edges: Three shows off the beaten path of D.C. stages
By Nelson Pressley
Theater can offer great reckonings in little rooms, but first, emerging companies have to find suitable rooms to stage their work. Three shows beyond downtown, in a sort of inside-the-Beltway outer circle, are giving D.C. audiences a look at such material as “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill,” sometimes well off the beaten path.
Just a little about me…
I am a seasoned veteran of the theater world, with over four decades of experience as a versatile performer, director, and producer. My journey in the arts began in 2004 when I established Winters Lane Productions, a venture that has since left an indelible mark on the industry, having achieved success on both national and international stages.
In 2022, audiences were captivated by my portrayal of Bunny in the Maryland Ensemble Theatre Production of “Detroit 67,” showcasing my exceptional talent and versatility as an actor. In 2017, I graduated from the prestigious Berklee School of Music with a degree in Music Production and Engineering, solidifying my prowess in various aspects of the performing arts.
Among my notable roles, I earned acclaim for my portrayal of the legendary Billie Holiday in the Helen Hayes-recommended production of “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill” at the Anacostia Playhouse. My remarkable vocal abilities also earned me the honor of being a three-time Honors recital soloist at the esteemed Carnegie Hall.
Beyond my thriving career in the arts, I have found success in the corporate world, serving as a dedicated professional for Apple, Inc. My role as an Event Coordinator with BOMU further showcases my dynamic skill set and organizational prowess.
Above all, I consider my most significant achievement to be my role as a mother to Mareike Elisabeth Nebel, who is currently a Senior at The New School in New York City. This testament to my ability to excel both professionally and personally underscores me as a true powerhouse in every facet of my life.
